Vámonos Detroit, 4444 Vernor Hwy, Detroit, MI 48209 United States

Come celebrate with us as we close out the year as with a meal and a dance.

Admission is donate what you can. We know everyone is strapped for mula in December, so please join in the fun. No one will be frowned at due to lack of funds. Proceeds go to Detroit Folk School programming so we can be sure to have a joyous year of dancing in 2027.

Come Play Music or Call a Dance Come play music or call a dance to join in the fun. Cory will hold down the calling and Lindsay will hold down the fiddle, but we’d love to give others the opportunity to get involved, kinda like open mic style. Reach out if you are interested, or just show up with your (acoustic) instrument. If you are interested in learning how to call, drop us a message!

As always: gender-neutral calling, dancing is to live music, all ages welcome, no experience necessary, all dances will be taught, no partner needed. Dancing is optional, too. It’s 100% ok to hang out, eat, drink, enjoy the scene and socialize without dancing. No fancy outfits needed (though you’re welcome to dress up however you like).

Bring: Potluck foods with serving utensils, bring a bunch of friends and wear comfy shoes for dancing! Dancing is optional, too — it’s 100% ok to hang out, eat, drink, enjoy the scene and socialize without dancing.

Parking: There are two free parking lots behind the space plus street parking and the insurance agency lot across the street, all free.

Admission: $20 suggested donation. If you don’t have $20 we still want you to come in and join the party! If you can pay more than $20 please do, it helps a lot. Pay whatever you can. We now use Partiful to accept pre-pay so there is no hassle at the door. Venmo, Cash App, and Paypal are all accepted.

Drinks & Food: Vámonos! will be serving delicious fare, beer, wine, nonalcoholic drinks (including fresh squeezed juice) and delicious food for a most reasonable price. Please no outside drinks. Vámonos has graciously allowed us to have a community potluck, so bring a dish!

Covid Precautions: We are not requiring masking for this event, although we encourage you to wear whatever you feel most comfortable wearing. Please do not attend if you’re feeling the slightest bit unwell.

Accessibility: Vámonos is wheelchair accessible

Restrooms: There are two unisex restrooms available and the doors are 35.5” wide.

“Why a queer square dance and not just a square dance?”

We use gender inclusive language and we don’t enforce any dress codes or other gender norms. We promote a culture of acceptance and discourage homophobia at our events. Everyone is welcome to attend, except for bigots and haters!

Please note: We are creating a queer space where we can come together and celebrate each other’s unique experiences in community. Bring your open and welcoming hearts and keep respect and kindness in mind as you may see people expressing themselves freely!
